The concept of optimization is the process of finding the best possible solution to a problem. In mathematics, this process generally refers to maximizing or minimizing the value of a function under given constraints.
In this book, solution methods of continuous optimization problems and MATLAB applications are explained. The book consists of five main parts:
- The first part is about the basics of optimization. In this section, the history of optimization, its applications in various fields, basic definitions in optimization, convex sets and convex functions are mentioned.
- In the second part, linear programming problems, integer linear programming problems and solution methods are explained.
- The third chapter includes optimality conditions and numerical methods for unconstrained optimization problems.
- In the fourth chapter, optimality conditions and solution methods for constrained optimization problems are discussed. Additionally, duality theory in constrained optimization is discussed.
- In the fifth chapter, solutions of unconstrained and constrained optimization problems in MATLAB program are given.
At the end of each chapter, there are exercises and answers related to the subject.
This book is a useful resource for anyone interested in continuous optimization and for students of mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematical engineering, industrial engineering, economics, and business.
