KPIT Technologies Performs Impact Analysis of Faults in an Electric Vehicle
“We had all these high fidelity models and we did not want to compromise on the fidelity, but we wanted to arrive at a very low simulation time for executing this kind of iterative simulation processes.”
Key Outcomes
- Minimize time and resources used by the manufacturers
- Increase users’ trust and belief in the brand
Specializing in embedded software, AI, and digital solutions, KPIT enables its customers to accelerate implementation of next-generation mobility technologies. In this project, KPIT sought to understand the severity of electrical faults on various subsystems of an electric vehicle (EV) and gain enough insights for future prognostics. Due to the nature of the faults, the team opted for a simulation-based approach to perform these studies.
With the help of Simulink® and Simscape™, the team created a library with battery management system (BMS), converter, motor, relay, and other models and validated them against experimental data. They then created a framework of the EV architecture, which they used to iterate through possible combinations of faults at subsystem levels as well as at wire fault levels and understand the impact on the entire system.
