Battery Modeling with Simulink
From the series: Improving Your Racecar Development
Javier Gazzarri and Christoph Hahn introduce you to battery modeling using Simulink. Formula Student teams often work on battery models to predict the car’s range, and to study the battery pack’s behavior under different thermal conditions. Javier, a MathWorks application engineer, introduces the concept of an equivalent circuit to set-up a battery model. The experimental approach of pulse discharging at different operation temperatures as preliminary work for the parameter estimation is shown in a demonstration. Parameter estimation in conjunction with look-up tables is a powerful tool to capture the real-world behavior of battery packs while saving computational effort at the same time.
