Spherical Source Radiation Impedance

R2026b

Radiation impedance of spherical pulsating source

Since R2026b

  • Spherical Source Radiation Impedance block

Libraries:
Simscape Acoustics / Radiation Impedance

Description

Add-On Required: This feature requires the Simscape Acoustics add-on.

The Spherical Source Radiation Impedance block is equivalent to a parallel combination of a resistor and an inertance.

For very low frequencies, the block behaves as a mass loading, represented as an inertance with value

M=ρrA,

where:

  • ρ is the density of the fluid.

  • r is the radius of the sphere.

  • A is the surface area of the sphere.

For very high frequencies, the block behaves like a pure resistive damping, represented as a resistance with value

R=ρcA,

where c is the sound speed in the fluid.
