Issues with Network Firewall Settings
Issue
An error message appears during dca1000
object creation or when you
click Test connection button in Verify
DCA1000EVM screen of the Hardware Setup:
No response has been received from the DCA1000EVM. Ensure that no external
applications, such as firewalls or antivirus programs, are blocking the network
packets.
Possible Cause: External applications such as firewalls or anti-virus programs might be blocking packets via the network connection from the DCA1000EVM.
Solution
Ensure that no external application is blocking UDP packets from the DCA1000EVM. Identify the application responsible for blocking the network packets.
Consult your system administrator or IT team to modify the application settings to allow UDP packets to and from ports 4096 and 4098 on your host computer, and also via its IP address (192.168.33.30) and the remote IP address (192.168.33.180, which is IP address of DCA1000EVM). These ports and IP addresses are used by the DCA1000EVM to send and receive packets.
Some applications allow you to create custom rules to unblock specific IP addresses and ports.
After unblocking the network packets, reconnect the power cable of the DCA1000EVM, and you may also need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Note
Always contact your system administrator or IT team to get approval to make these changes on your PC.
If Windows Defender Firewall is blocking the network packets, you can add a custom rule to allow DCA1000EVM packets. Follow the steps below to determine if Windows Defender Firewall is blocking the connection and how to add a custom rule to unblock DCA1000EVM packets:
Open Windows Defender Firewall:
Go to Start and open Control Panel.
Select System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall.
Configure Defender Firewall Options:
The options are available for the following network types: Domain networks, Private networks, Public networks.
The DCA1000EVM typically uses either a Private or Public/Guest Network. You will see the corresponding network shown as connected when you connect the DCA1000EVM and set the static IP on the host computer.
Check Incoming Connections
Under the network associated with DCA1000EVM, check if incoming connections are blocked. If they are not blocked, Windows Defender Firewall is likely not the software blocking the network packets.
Add a Custom Rule:
If incoming connections are blocked, you can add a custom rule to unblock the network packets with permission from your IT team. Follow the next steps to add a custom rule:
Go to Advanced Settings:
Click on the "Advanced settings" link in the left pane of Windows Defender Firewall.
List all Inbound Rules
In the window that opens, click "Inbound Rules" in the left pane to list all filters for incoming network traffic.
Create a New Inbound Rule:
Click "New Rule" on the right side of the window to create a new rule.
In the New Inbound Rule Wizard:
In the Rule Type tab, specify the rule type as "Port." Click Next.
In the Protocol and Ports tab, specify the following:
Does the rule apply to UDP or TCP? Select "UDP."
Does this rule apply to all local ports or specific local ports? Specify port numbers as 4096 and 4098.
Click Next.
In the Actions tab, select "Allow the Connection." Click Next.
In the Profile tab, check all the networks. Sometimes the DCA1000 connection can fall under different domains. If you are sure the connection falls under only one domain, select only that one.
Click Next.
In the Name tab, add a name of your preference to identify the rule you added. Click Finish.
Edit the Rule:
You will see the new rule you added with the name you specified in the Inbound Rules.
Double-click the rule you created.
Click the "Scope" tab.
Edit Local IP Address:
Click "These IP Addresses" under the Local IP address option and click Add. Specify the IP address as 192.168.33.30 (IP address of the host PC where DCA1000EVM sends packets).
Edit Remote IP Address:
Click "These IP Addresses" under the Remote IP address option and click Add. Specify the IP address as 192.168.33.180 (IP address of DCA1000). Click OK.
Create Outbound Rule:
In the Advanced Settings window, Select Outbound Rule in the left pane and follow steps from 7 to 9 to create a new Outbound Rule.
Reconnect DCA1000 Power Supply:
Reconnect the DCA1000 power supply. Allow 20-30 seconds for the DCA1000 power-up to complete.
Then, try creating the DCA1000 object or verify the connection using the Test Connection button in the Verify DCA1000 Connection section of the hardware setup screen.
