.mlx scripts unusable due to lag

Loading, switching between, changing the viewing frame of, and executing a function within .mlx files are all producing extreme lag using R2021a on a 2020 13' MBP 2Ghz quad-core i5 16GB.
I'm getting freezed out, have had to kill the program and restart, loading messages with delay in the folder frame and in the addess bar, graphical glitches around the frame of the .mlx file, and a warning banner indicating unable to load outputs and to contact tech support for assistance.
Not all at once, of course =) Just in the last 30 mins of attempted use. I've seen .mlx performance issues mentioned elsewhere (this question) that appear to have been partially resolved. The issues above seem more widespread, regarding any functionality concerning .mlx files.
Is there some sort of general setting or fix i'm missing? This on the current patch of 2021a, recently reinstalled. Any help much appreciated.

This was caused by the default setting for java heap memory. If anybody has a similar issue here is the fix: https://in.mathworks.com/help/matlab/matlab_external/java-heap-memory-preferences.html
