By default Windows 7 includes a new IEEE 1394 bus driver, which replaces the old (legacy) 1394 bus driver used in previous versions of Windows.
To isolate issues related to IEEE 1394 ("Firewire") host controller compatibility with the new IEEE 1394 bus driver in Windows 7, revert to the Legacy 1394 driver in Windows 7 following these steps:
1. Open Device Manager in Windows Control Panel
2. Expand "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers"
3. Select 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (double-click or right-click and select Properties from context menu).
4. On the Driver tab
- click "Update Driver" > "Browse my computer for driver software"
- click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
- manually choose the "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)"
- click "Next" > click "Close"
5. Repeat 3-4 for each "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller"
6. Reboot computer
To change back to the default Windows 7 driver, follow the same steps.
