How to "save" to workspace image received by few operations?

Hello,
I am currently working on a project, in which it would be very helpful to "save" to workspace image received by making few plots.
I dont know if i said it properly, so for example if i have first image, then i use "hold on" commend and then draw some contours on this image, how can I save the image I received (original image with contours) as a new image?

See if the savefig function will do what you want. It saves the complete figure and the vectors or matrices that were used to create it, as well as the legend, axis titles, and everything else, so you have them and can modify them later if you want to, without altering the original file.
