MATLAB keeps asking for activation

Hi everyone, I hope you all are doing OK!
I seem to have run into a problem with my installation of MATLAB. Each time it starts, the software activation window opens instead of MATLAB itself. I am able to navigate through the license activation steps without issue, and at the end, the software mentions that the activation was successful. The next time try to open it, however, the exact same software activation window pops up.
I realize that a similar issue has been discussed multiple times on this forum, but I have not bee able to find a solution that works for me. I think one of the reasons for this may be that the askers of those questions were all working with fresh installs of the software, while I have already been using my installation for over a year without issues (I activated the university-supplied MATLAB R2019a student license in March 2019 on my Windows 10 personal computer, and I last used the installation sometime early- to mid-November of this year).
I have tried everything I could think of (including solutions I found in the posts I mentioned earlier) to fix this:
  • I have chosen "Activate automatically using the Internet" > log in with 2FA > select "MATLAB (individual) - Academic (Total Headcount)" > Windows username. The activation software told me that the activation was successful.
  • I have manually downloaded a new license file for R2019a and referenced the activation software to the location of said license file. Again, the activation software told me that the activation was successful.
  • I have upgraded to R2020b. The activation software still opened instead of MATLAB.
  • I have manually downloaded a new license file for R2020b and referenced the activation software to the location of said license file. The activation software told me that the activation was successful.
At this point, I am completely out of ideas on how to fix the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers!

Run As Administrator to do the activation, so that it has permission to write into the correct directory.

OK, I tried that, and it worked! Thank you! That is really weird, however, because I never had to start MATLAB as an administrator before.
