AVL EXCITE M

Powertrain dynamic simulation for durability and NVH

Highlights

  • Flexible bodies (FE or beam-based)
  • Detailed contacts between bodies like oil film bearings, gears, and roller bearings
  • Electro-mechanical coupling
  • Analysis of transient powertrain effects with influence of controller

Description

AVL EXCITE™ M is specialized software for powertrain dynamic simulations. The results are used to evaluate powertrain durability and NVH. Any powertrain type, such as IC engine-based, hybrid, or pure electric, can be simulated.

When performing dynamic simulation, EXCITE M simultaneously solves the deformation of flexible bodies, the interaction between the bodies like oil film in the bearings or gear contacts, and electro-mechanical interaction in electric motors while considering any type of external load excitation. Simulations are solved in time domain, which enables steady-state and transient simulations. All of this enables high-fidelity simulations that can be used to reduce hardware testing.

EXCITE M interfaces with MATLAB® and Simulink® through an S-function, with its inputs and outputs, being used for communication. MATLAB and Simulink models can be used in co-simulation to consider specialized interaction between the bodies or to define some specialized load. Furthermore, controllers defined by MATLAB can be embedded in the EXCITE M dynamic simulation signal network, such as an electric motor controller.
