Development of a High-Fidelity, Dynamic Model of an Automated Manual Transmission Using Simulink
Nikita Shetty, Tata Motors Ltd.
Amar Penta, Tata Motors Ltd.
Testing, validation, and calibration of a control strategy for an automated manual transmission is an essential but time-consuming task. To accelerate this process, Tata Motors has developed a mathematical model of the transmission unit. Since the gear-shifting phenomena are the most crucial part of the AMT strategy, the kinetics between the physical systems involved in the process and the complex geometry dependent tribology has been modeled in detail. Using Simscape™, SimDriveline™, SimPowerSystems™, and customized blocks coded with the Simscape language, the synchronizer, actuator, and clutch systems have been built and integrated. This model will be used to verify and validate the control strategy through model-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, and component-in-the-loop simulations. The obtained data will help in the selection and sizing of actuators. This session focuses on how Simulink® has been used to build the mathematical model.
