Hybrid Systems: From Motor-Sport to Production

GKN Hybrid Power has developed an innovative, electrically driven Flywheel Energy Storage System—a mechanical battery. From its ancestors in nuclear reprocessing centrifuge machines through early F1 KERS prototypes, the technology has developed into a three-time Le Mans–winning energy storage solution for Audi Sport and is now rolling out into production as part of the Gyrodrive hybrid bus system. MATLAB® and Simulink® have been in continuous use throughout this journey. This presentation highlights how MATLAB and Simulink products have been applied to several areas of the technology’s development.
