MathWorks
Founded in 1984, MathWorks is the leading developer of mathematical computing software. MATLAB and Simulink enable engineers and scientists to design and develop a wide range of advanced products, including autonomous and connected vehicles, aerospace flight control and avionics, telecommunications and other electronics equipment, industrial machinery and robots, and smart medical devices. The company’s guiding principle is to “do the right thing” for our staff members, customers, business partners, and communities for the long term.
MathWorks has three offices in Japan—Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka—with more than 250 employees in total. The offices are in urban areas and are surrounded by a good environment, with beautiful window views.
Core Values
Core values are the essential and enduring principles of MathWorks that are integral to our success. These core values are unaffected by the trends of the day or changing market conditions.
MathWorks cultivates an enjoyable, vibrant, participatory, and rational work environment that nurtures individual growth, empowerment, and responsibility; appreciates diversity; encourages initiative and creativity; values teamwork; shares success; and rewards excellence.
We maintain curiosity toward the world, have a passion for lifelong learning, and offer a variety of programs that support learning and self-improvement. Employees have regular one-on-one meetings with their manager to identify internal and external training to acquire new skills. Employees can also participate in employee-led study groups, product training, and various projects across the company without being restricted by position or job title.
Office Culture
Communication among employees is essential to a comfortable work environment.
When employees come to the office, breakfast and snacks are served in the common area, creating a place for casual conversation. When employees work remotely, they are encouraged to chat with members of other departments to ensure they remain connected.
In order to deepen friendships with colleagues and increase team strength, we plan barbecues, go-kart experiences, and beer factory tours for each team every year.
