Product and Configuration Dependencies for Virtual Vehicle Composer

The Virtual Vehicle Composer automatically creates a virtual vehicle model based on the vehicle class and vehicle components you choose. The resulting model runs in Simulink®.

To meet the requirements for your project, you must configure the correct virtual vehicle for your planned tests. The Virtual Vehicle Composer requires either a Powertrain Blockset™ or Vehicle Dynamics Blockset™ license, but the types of models you can construct - and the types of tests you can run - depend on which licenses you have.

These general guidelines apply:

  • Powertrain Blockset enables a broad range of powertrain architectures and power generation detail. You can run acceleration and braking performance tests, and energy-related tests, such as those for fuel economy, battery state of charge, and emissions. Powertrain Blockset enables straight-line longitudinal vehicle motion.

  • Vehicle Dynamics Blockset enables more detailed modeling of vehicle motion that includes longitudinal, lateral, and vertical motions. You can simulate vehicle tests such as lane changes or increasing steer maneuvers. Vehicle Dynamics Blockset provides fewer powertrain options than Powertrain Blockset.

  • If you have both Powertrain Blockset and Vehicle Dynamics Blockset, you can combine the options for both.

  • The Vehicle class parameter options have these requirements:

    • Passenger vehicle — Requires either a Powertrain Blockset or Vehicle Dynamics Blockset license. A Simscape™ license provides additional component options.

    • Motorcycle — Requires licenses for Vehicle Dynamics Blockset and Simscape, as well as certain Simscape add-ons.

Installed licenses have the greatest effect on these Setup pane choices:

  • Vehicle class

  • Model template

  • Powertrain architecture

  • Vehicle dynamics

  • Custom component catalog

Note that setting Model template to Simulink incorporates Simulink physical components. Setting Model template to Simscape incorporates Simscape physical components.

  • Vehicle Dynamics Blockset or Powertrain Blockset

  • Simscape provides additional vehicle component choices

Motorcycle

  • Vehicle Dynamics Blockset

  • Simscape

  • Simscape Multibody™

In addition, the selections you make when configuring your virtual vehicle determine which tests you can run. For example, to run a lane change test when you set Vehicle class to Passenger vehicle, you must set Vehicle dynamics to Combined longitudinal and lateral dynamics.

Custom component catalog availability depends on the Model template chosen. It is only available when you set Model template to Simulink. You cannot use a Custom component catalog when you set Model template to Simscape.

Motorcycle License Requirements and Dependencies

The Motorcycle option for Vehicle class requires these Vehicle Dynamics Blockset and Simscape licenses and add-ons. A Powertrain Blockset license does not change any options.

  • Vehicle Dynamics Blockset

  • Simscape

  • Simscape Multibody

The only Model template option for a Motorcycle is Simscape.

Because you must set Model template to Simscape when you set Vehicle class to Motorcycle, you cannot use a Custom component catalog to store or retrieve customized vehicle components.
