Why? With image analysis, you almost never want to convert to JPEG, unless it's lossless JPEG2000 or you're doing research on compression methods. I use PNG for virtually all of my images. It's lossless compression and I get about a third the size that I'd get in BMP or TIFF format. Moreover if these are human medical images, I'd be very wary about doing diagnostics off a lossy compressed image (from a legal liability standpoint).

It is true. However, it is quite difficult to get the source code of doing feature extraction on dicom image.

It's no easier to develop a feature extraction algorithm on a JPG image than on a dicom image. In fact, it may be harder if the JPG image has bad compression artifacts. So I don't understand why you implied that it's more difficult on a dicom image than on a JPG image.
