How can I find the path of one file knowing only filename?

If its in one of the matlab path
fileparts(which(filename))

You said " knowing only filename" so we assume that you know the filename. Why don't you know it? Or do you? It's not clear. Do you only think it might be there and have to try to find it somewhere?
