Looking for TeX interpreter commands

Hey!
I am looking for the TeX command which will give me a hat on the variable. I found the LaTeX command which is "\hat x" but I need the TeX one.
Any help is much appreciated.

As doc's say, the implemented TeX interpreter is a subset; don't think it has it implemented.

Why not use the LaTeX interpreter instead? E.g.,
plot(1:5);
title('$$\hat{A}$$','interpreter','latex')
