What do the (automatically assigned) colors in a Histogram stand for?

hi,

I have a set of points (nearly 8,000) scattered in a 2D matrix. I calculated the distance between any two of them and then used Histogram to plot it.Here is what I am getting:

I am just wondering what do the colors represent?

It might be helpful to know that:

these points are actually the centers of disks (all with the same diameter) and as such cannot get closer to one another beyond the diameter.
the matrix is nearly 1500 by 1000

any comment would be appreciated

If you do hist() on a 2D array, then you will get an histogram for each column of your array. The bars with the same color will be the histogram for a given column of said array.
