Ran in:
Assuming you've defined your variable and it's numeric, this should work:
variable=100;
log10(variable)
ans = 2
x=[100 200 500 1000];
log10(x)
ans = 1×4
2.0000 2.3010 2.6990 3.0000
It may fail if you haven't defined your variable:
log10(y)
Or if your variable is not numeric:
z="100";
log10(z)
