Convert from cylindrical Mapping (panaroma) to Cubical (6 face) mapping

Hi, I was wondering if there is a direct way of converting an image to cube map form. I want to create a 3D image out of it. If there is no direct way, can you please suggest me some algorithms that can be used to convert to cubical projections. In case my question sounds a bit confusing or unclear, Please refer to wikipedia : cube mapping
