I am unable to view an IP address and connect to a common network with my computer. Anyone who has faced a similar problem ?

Are you using the connection method mentioned here:

http://www.mathworks.com/help/supportpkg/legomindstormsev3/ug/set-up-networking-for-ev3-hardware.html --> Connect Using Ethernet

Try this way, see if this resolves the issue.
