Appdesigner is loosing its understanding of arrow key and cursor position

I have been using Matlab 2022a Appdesigner for a while and suddenly (or so it seems) the editor needs to activate its GPS

By this I mean

I click on a line in the editor and the cursor is on the line below

The up arrow key ^ of the 4 cursor movement key moves down and not up

I can hack things using the < backspace key to get the cursor back where I want -- but I can only cut and paste by holding down the shift key as I back space to highlight things -- as double clicking on a word highlights something in the line below

I know that I keep on accidently pressing control-shift together and switching into the french / quebec keyboard (took me a long time to work out how to fix other than rebooting the machine

so I am doing something like that -- or is it a problem with appdesigner editor

I think the problem starts when I am changing code while debugging without doing 'run'. But ity is not corrected by doing a clean 'run'

I can fix things for a while by restarting appdesigner
