Remote desktop for MATLAB individual license?

I am currently running an individual license of MATLAB on an older laptop (Dell Intel Core i7 @ 2.40GHz, 16 GB RAM, Windows 10 Home, 64-bit). I want to purchase a new laptop, but since I use very large datasets that require external drives, I'm wondering if it makes more sense to purchase a desktop with a larger hard drive capacity to run remotely from a laptop. A desktop seems more cost effective, would give me greater storage, and I'd be able to schedule regular cloud backups.
I'm not sure the feasibility of running an individual license remotely on a desktop, but I'm interested in user thoughts about the idea. I'm the only user on this license so it wouldn't make sense to purchase server licensing. Thanks for any feedback.

In essence this would mean using something like TeamViewer or VNC to remotely control your desktop from your laptop.
Apart from what you might expect already in terms of system hotkeys, I don't see how this would mean anything for Matlab.
If you want to use a system like Matlab Online (except you're running the server yourself) I have no idea whether that would be possible.
I don't work for Mathworks, so my answer is not official, but in terms of licensing I don't see any problem with a VNC/TeamViewer setup.
