Hi,
I just installed 2022b. Upon opening a app made in app designer 2020a, I got a warning message saying it was automatically converted to be backwards compatible with 2020a. Now the menu bar that displays when I run the app is completely backwards, yet it still shows up as being correct in the Design View of app designer! What gives?

My comment is still the same -- if it doesn't function the same as your screenshots show, I deem that worthy of a support request related to new version install. TMW may disagree, but don't think there's anything anybody outside of them can do to fix the issue with the existing app import.
The alternative would seem to be to rewrite the existing app with the new release -- and if the UI is complicated, that could, agreed, be a real pain.
The local doc for R2020b, however, says that if you open an app built with an earlier release it will update to the current...
"Opening Apps for Editing in a Newer Release
If you open an app for editing that was created in a previous release, App Designer updates the app, and displays a message such as this one." (followed by image of a message to that effect).
I would presume current doc will say the same thing which then should qualify as a bug if it doesn't actually do that but reverts permanently back to the old release.
BTW, the reversal from right to left of menu items would seem to imply a reversed storage order of the components for the menu between the two versions. Whether one could find where/how those are stored/referenced and make a fixup or not, I've no idea; I've never looked at the innards of the app at that level of detail.
