Is it normal that the execution speed of MATLAB on Macbook Pro M2 Max is slow?

57 次查看(过去 30 天)
My 16-inch Macbook pro has the M2 Max chip with 12-core CPU, 30-core GPU, 32GB RAM, and 2TB SSD Storage. The system is macOS Ventura Version 13.2.1. When I ran the MATLAB R2022b benchmark using the code t=bench (https://ww2.mathworks.cn/help/matlab/ref/bench.html), I found that the execution speed of my machine was quite slow compared with other systems (please see the below figures). Could anyone tell me whether it was normal? Thanks in advance.

I think you should compare it to other mac OS machines and not care about windows ones. How do your specs compare to the iMac above you?

I had a similar issue the first time I installed and opened MATLAB on my M1 Pro MacBook Pro. Maybe try restarting if you just installed MATLAB. Also, if you're facing longer than usual 2D and 3D times, it may be the display resolution.

Hello,
There could be various reasons why your M2 Max chip may be slower than other systems when running the MATLAB R2022b benchmark.
Here are some possible causes and solutions you can try:
  • Check your system settings: Make sure that your MacBook Pro is set to the highest performance mode.
  • Check if there are any other processes running: Make sure that no other processes or applications are running in the background that could be using up system resources.
  • Check if your MacBook Pro is overheating: Overheating can cause your system to slow down. Check if your MacBook Pro is overheating.
It is also worth noting that benchmark results can vary depending on the specific test, system configuration, and environment. Therefore, it is important to consider multiple benchmark tests and compare results from similar systems to get an accurate assessment of performance.

The older versions of Matlab (prior to R2023b) do not natively support matlab. They are running through an emulator and that is why it is slow. Matlab has finally got native apple silicon support from R2023b, so the performance should increaes now. Please try to install the latest version of matlab (R2023b).
Thanks.
