Adding saved figure to plot

How would I go about adding previously made figures to a new subplot? All previous figures are made and saved but if I were to make a new subplot, how would I add them to it?

See copyobj, There's a very recent (last few weeks) Answers Q? on precisely the topic addressing putting axes into subplots where one has to handle the children of the axes and move them specifically because the original figure can't go into the axes of a subplot() or tiledlayou() axes.
