Why is the MATLAB search path not the same as "pathdef.m" file after installing a support package in MATLAB R2024a?

I installed a support package. It adds the support package path to the MATLAB search path which can be confirmed using "pathtool" and using the "path" command. I closed MATLAB and opened it again and the path is still there, so it is persistent. However, it is not added to the "pathdef.m" file located at matlabroot/toolbox/local. I expect the "path" command to give the same path as in "pathdef.m" except those that are temporary as stated in the documentation page of "path".

There is no guarantee that MATLAB search path obtained using the "path" command and the "pathdef.m" file will match. The "path" documentation for MATLAB R2025a and later has been updated to reflect this behavior.
