How can I equalize the V component of a HSV image?

I separated the HSV image into H, S, V components... But, I have no V component in my image.. then how i equalize the HSV image??

I = imread('pears.png');
I_hsv = rgb2hsv(I);
V_comp = I_hsv(:,:,3);
eq_V_comp = histeq(V_comp);
I_hsv(:,:,3) = eq_V_comp;
I_eq = hsv2rgb(I_hsv);
figure,imshow(I_eq);
