hi, i am finding it difficult to get an appropriate method for segmenting a tooth out of an periapical xray.

In the paper they had used an xray of extracted tooth and for that the technique used was basic threshold method. pls suggest me a technique for the same.

If it's a human dental x-ray, it won't be that good a segmentation. But a basic thresholding goes like this:
thresholdedImage = grayscaleImage > 120; % or whatever value works.
