Does anyone know how I can discover the content in an image?

I'm looking for any toolbox or function, so I can use in my research to identify the content of an image. I know the trainCascadeObjectDetector but in my case, it's not very useful since I tried to train it and I was getting false detection every time. I need something more general for example I want to check if the photo contains a river so I can get information from 0 to 1 what is the possibility my photo contains that kind of object.
I hope you could find a solution. Tnx in advance
