I want to distribute a binary but it has important research information and must only be accessible by the people with permission. I want to add something like an Id, password or any other form of verification to my distributed file.

How are you sharing your research information? Are you bundling it with your application as MAT files? If yes, please note that MAT files are not encrypted (whereas your source code (.m files) are encrypted) and when the application is run, these MAT files are present in a temporary folder and information in it can be retrieved by opening them in MATLAB.
