Adding custom tag to TIF image

Hi, I need to add custom TIFF tags that does not exist in Matlab TIFF library. These tags are typically seen as "Unknown" when the image is being read with imfinfo. How do I add or copy these custom tags when exporting tiff image to the disk? I'm assuming imwrite is out of the question. Thanks, Rei
