'Modalfit' command is limiting the number of modes I can search

Hello,
Recently, I have been conducting some modal analysis. I usually use the command 'tfest' on the data I have and then 'modalfit' to extract the modal parameters from the reconstructed FRF.
The issue I am getting is that sometimes, when i run modalfit, i get a warning telling me the maximum modes are x ( where x is a number that changes from 2-3 for me) and I often need more modes than the maximum that warning allows.
Anyone knows why is this happening?
