Where should I start? Trying to use phone as a motion sensor

Hey, so I have a school project im working on where I need to use my phone as a motion sensor and then graph the movement. Can anyone point me in the direction I need to be? I have no idea where to start with this.

Hello Ryan,
There is an exact example for doing that with acceleration sensors here, using MATLAB Mobile. If you would rather the app be fully self-contained, and you have Simulink Coder, you can use the Android Support Package for Simulink. There are instructions for acceleration plotting here.
Both of these processes have equivalents for iOS devices as well.
