interp1 is used for only for equidistant steps?

I have a code which include interpolation using intrp1, and it give the correct final answer only when the interpolation is done on equidistant source data. but it gives shifted results when the source data are non-equidistant.
is the reason is the interp1 functions limitation? or it can not be the reason?

I used interp1 with non regular spacings and it worked....
