How do I make the Simulink run toolbar appear on new models?

I have just installed student version of MATLAB onto my mac.
When I run simulink though, there is no toolbar on any new file I make, you know the one that does start and stop and save and new file icon.
Any ideas how I can get show these?

There isn't an option for this, that is one of the problems. Do I have a faulty version of Simulink?
