Can you explain what you are doing exactly that is producing this error message? Internal delays are described here.
You can read this section of the doc to understand why totaldelay cannot be computed for systems with internal delays.
If your question has something to do with MPC controllers, than it might be interesting to know that R2013b added support for mpc control design for plant and disturbance models with internal delays, as described here.
