Hello,
I would like to enter a equation for a curve i will be later plotting r(t) composed of <x(t),y(t),z(t)>
x(t) = 5tsin(4t)
y(t) = 12t + 200t^3/3
z(t) = 5t*cos(4t)
The reason I would like to enter the equations is so that I can have matlab differentiate them for me so all of my work is in the code. Anyway I am having difficulty even entering x(t) and having it work. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If you want to differentiate them using the Symbolic Math Toolbox, start with:
syms t
x(t) = 5*t*sin(4*t)
y(t) = 12*t + 200*t^3/3
z(t) = 5*t*cos(4*t)
MATLAB does not recognise implicit multiplication, so you need to supply the multiplication operators. (I did that for you here.)
Then, use the diff function to create the symbolic derivatives.
