How can I indicate varying population level using colour across an area in the UK?

I have got a data file containing the coordiates of a number of location(x,y) in an area and its corresponding average population number associated with that location. I want to plot those locations on a 2D figure in dots, and present its corresponding average population number across the area in different colours (the dots will be in different colours depending on the population level). So for example, if location 1 has higher population number than location 2, a darker colour dot will be used to represent that location.
Here is an example of the data =
[447830 1141252 14.65;
447867 1141189 32.34;
448020 1141090 16.76];
first column is location x (east), second coloumn is location y (north), and third column the average population number for that particular location.
Thank you very much!
