How to use "place" to move poles closer towards origin in a zero-pole map of a discrete time system ?

Hi,
I have the following zero-pole map I created of my discrete system (see attached picture) but I want to make the poles closer to the origin. Anyone know how to use "place" to achieve this ? I have used a state space model but if do K=place(F,G,p) where F is the discrete state matrix, G is the discrete input matrix and p = [0,0,0,0] it gives me an error. The size of F is 4x4 sop has the same row size as F. Thanks in advance.
