your edit accept string that has the specific length: try this: find your Edit box Tag and place it instead of : 'your edit box Tag'
%.................................................
STR = get(findobj('Tag','your edit box Tag'),'string');
%When you press backspace
STRn = STR(1:end-1);
set(findobj('Tag','your edit box Tag'),'string',STRn);
%Whenever you push the backspace the last character will be eliminated
