Compatibility with Algebra/ Symbolic mathematics

Hi, I am new to Matlab. Is Matlab capable of working with algebra -- a CAS?
If yes, would you mind providing a link to a tutorial page?
If not, what software program would you recommend to use for algebraic manipulations?

The Symbolic Toolkit is MuPAD.
There is an interface available that can allow MATLAB to call upon Wolfram's Mathematica.
If you install Maplesoft's Maple and it detects you have MATLAB installed, it will ask you whether you want to install an interface. This interface is a bit more integrated than the Mathematica interface, it appears to me.
