The purpose of this model is to act as a computational tool to help formula SAE teams determine the transient and operational temperatures of the majority of their brake components. The braking system used in the thermal model is a single opposed piston caliper with semi-metalic brake pads. For more information about the system modeled as well as assumptions made modeling, please refer to my paper.
You are free to use this model and information in my paper in design binders, please just cite me appropriately!
To Use the Model:
- Almost all of the inputs will be in the excel file (with the exception of the heat partition factor, which is simply hardcoded in)
- The file to run will be: FSAE_HT_Main
- All other files simply contain theory or equations used and should not require to be modified
- Ensure that all files (including the excel file) are all in the same folder
- When you run the code you will be prompted to input the DOT number simply input the number of the brake fluid (i.e. 3,4,5 Motul 660 was additionally added and should only be refered to as 660)
- When enabling or disabling active convection respond in the comand window with 'y' or 'n' (single quotes MUST be used for matlab to recognize the string)
