Physical Channels

PUSCH and PUCCH formats 1, 2, and 3 modulation, coding, and indices; PRACH generation, detection

Physical channels correspond to sets of time-frequency resources used for transmission of particular transport channel content, control information, or indicator information. Each transport channel is mapped to a corresponding physical channel. The red outline contains LTE Toolbox™ uplink functionality for physical channels, transport channels, and control information.

Physical ChannelDescription

PUSCH — physical uplink shared channel

The PUSCH carries RRC signaling messages, UCI (uplink Control Information), and application data.

PUCCH Format 1 — physical uplink control channel format 1

The PUCCH format 1 is used to carry uplink control information (UCI) pertaining to scheduling requests and HARQ.

PUCCH Format 2 — physical uplink control channel format 2

The PUCCH format 2 is used to carry uplink control information (UCI) pertaining to CQI and HARQ.

PUCCH Format 3— physical uplink control channel format 3

The PUCCH format 3 is used to carry uplink control information (UCI) pertaining to scheduling requests and HARQ.  PUCCH format 3 can support up to five carriers.

PRACH — physical random access channel

The PRACH is used to carry random access preambles used for initiation of random access procedure.
