Set port dimensions using variables

Is there a way to set port dimensions with variables? I used workspace variables that are uint16 and positive (e.g. [kNumAccel kNumAct]) and got this error:
Error:Error invoking object method
Dimensions specified in model are invalid. Dimensions must be -1 (inherited) or a non-empty vector of strictly positive integers.
