How to automate plot function (axis grid, x-axis tick)?

How can I modify the following code
scatter(cell2mat(Red_Phase_Max(i,7)),double(cell2mat(Red_Phase_Max(i,2)))./8192,40,'b','o','MarkerFaceColor','b');
so that I can automatically
1. turn on the grid (x-axis only) and the box around the plot 2. turn up the x-tick (with step of 1000) with minor tick as shown in the attached image
