undefined function or method 'ocr' for input arguments of type 'unit8'

I am trying to recognize a letter inside the image, I read a .png file and wrote the code as

ocrResults=ocr(im,roi);

i got the error as follows undefined function or method 'ocr' for input arguments of type 'unit8' how could i fix the problem

You MIGHT get that error for uint8 arguments. unit8 arguments are something that will be more difficult to solve.

ocr was released in the Computer Vision System Toolbox in R2014a so if you are on an older release or don't have CVST, you will have to upgrade.

Try

ocrResults=ocr(double(im),roi);

i tried that one, i got the same error but instead unit8 i got double.
