creating variables with a for loop

I have a table of data, in the first column there are a bunch of names. Trying to make a for loop that pulls the name from the table and create variables named after the names pulled from the table.

Can you define variables with numbered names like X1, X2, X3, ... or whose names are given by a list of strings? Yes.
Should you do this? Generally we recommend against it.
