Take a look at the Robotics and Autonomous Systems and Embedded Systems sections linked from the Solutions section of the website for discussions of how MathWorks users are using our products in those application areas.
When I saw the customer success story about the eye surgery robot on the first of those pages I have to admit I winced a little bit, as I don't really like the thought of anyone or anything bringing a scalpel near my own eyes.

Eye surgery: Twice. I had to deal with panic attacks for a couple of months before hand. (Actual surgery was okay, the anaesthetics worked fine.)
