error using open line 163

Whenever i modify and save a simulink file(.slx) and try to reopen it again, i get the "Error using open (line 163). Assertion failed: Deviant '1' , object of type something is not present " as shown in image. The simulink model also has simscape and stateflow blocks. The original file is created by one of my colleague and is under version control.
